Foods To Avoid
With braces on, I’m sure you are aware that some things may have a little more effect on the braces themselves. Popcorn is a huge culprit at Burbey Orthodontics. The kernels can cause inflamed gums when they become stuck and are very difficult to brush out or remove. Chewing on hard items such as nuts, ice, or hard candies can also cause a lot of damage to the brackets and may even cause them to fall off. When a bracket becomes loose or is completely removed from biting on hard items, your teeth are not moving in the direction Dr. Burbey would like. It is essential you come into the office as soon as possible to get this repaired and to get your teeth moving back in the right direction.
Floss, floss, floss!
Here at Burbey Orthodontics, we give you everything you could ever need to make your flossing experience as easy and efficient as possible. Flossing is essential to keeping your gums and teeth healthy. Food can become stuck in the brackets as discussed before and it is important that it is removed to keep your mouth clean and in the best shape. If you ever need more dental floss threaders or a new Proxabrush, just feel free to ask!
Clean Your Retainers
Keeping your retainers clean is an important step that many people tend to forget about. Simply brushing your retainer with toothpaste when you brush your teeth can remove any plaque, film, or excess food that has accumulated on the retainers. You may also consider using denture cleaner or a water-baking soda mixture that can also be brushed onto the retainers.
